Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World in a competition in London. She beat 120 international contestants each deemed to be not only the most beautiful in their home countries, but the best example of what it means to be a modern woman.
Rolene finds inspiration from Professor Jonathan Jansen, the rector of the University of the Free State. “He is not afraid to stand for what he believes in, he loves what he does and gives of himself to his students. I can testify that he wants the best for his students and supports them in all they do. We can all learn from Prof Jansen. Love what you do, stay humble and let the light shine on others.”
Strauss, the daughter of a doctor and nurse, has been modeling professionally for the past several years and is currently a fourth-year medical student at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. She had put her studies on hold to compete in Miss World. At the pageant, she said in a pre-taped interview screened onstage that becoming Miss South Africa and Miss World and studying medicine were her childhood dreams
